A choreographer is naturally preoccupied with the creation of choreography and may neglect important administrative matters. Some choreographers tolerate inadequate conditions of engagement and tread unsurely among the complexities of copyright, insurance and the small print in some contracts. Some continue to suffer in collaborative enterprises from lower status and fees than other participants. The services of a theatrical agent or manager may primarily concern contracts, fees and publicity matters, leaving many other issues for the choreographer to sort out. This publication addresses those issues and is applicable to all stages of the choreographic career, whether that of a young person starting out with a small group or that of an established choreographer moving away from the comparative shelter of a parent organisation into a different type of choreographic work without the facilities and support of expert management.
