The Dance Managers Group (DMG)

What is it?

The Dance Managers Group (DMG) is a communication network for professional dance managers. Its overarching mission is to further the development of dance and its audiences. It is managed by Claire Crowley, Dance UK's Deputy Director (job share) who is also Executive Director of Springs Dance Company.

It achieves this through:

  • Developing the skills and professionalism of managers.
  • Fostering and encouraging good practice in the management of dance.
  • Providing a forum for debate.
  • Proposing action and solutions.
  • Using its collective voice to influence national policy.

In spirit, DMG is:

  • A safe space.
  • Forward looking.

Who is DMG for?

DMG places high priority on functioning well as a group. Membership is therefore open to professional dance company managers (small and middle scale) who are members of Dance UK and have a commitment to DMG's remit.

Dance UK talks new members through what they can expect of DMG and vice versa, and where necessary puts new members in touch with an existing member who can act as a 'buddy' to the new member.

How does DMG operate?

Conference

DMG holds an annual conference in December or January. Plans for the conference are overseen by a steering committee made up of members of the group, including the Chair and the Deputy Director of Dance UK. The aim of the conference is to share experience and learning with peers. The conference may involve speakers, panel discussions, presentations or break out groups. Consideration is given to holding this event out of London.

Communication through e-group

DMG members form an e-group which facilitates ongoing exchange of information, news and views, and through which all details of the conference are circulated.

How can I become involved in this group?
