Healthy Dance Practice Certification – Course Information – Fit4dance

This new certification with Dance UK member Safe in Dance International (SiDI), which references up to date research, has been developed and written by members of The International Association for Dance Medicine & Science (IADMS) to enhance knowledge of healthy dance practice. Completion of the certification offers 60 hours of continuing professional development (CPD) endorsed by Council for Dance Education and Training (CDET).

The Healthy Dance Practice Certification evidences knowledge in key areas of safe dance practice that are essential for dancers, dance teachers and practitioners working in any style or genre and with dancers of any age or ability level. It will cover the key subject areas that you should know to keep your dancers as healthy as possible as you strive to minimise injury and optimise performance in your studio or educational environment. This certification has been written to sit at level 5 of the Qualifications Framework. This is the vocational equivalent of second year of degree study.

This covers a range of areas including:
• Warm up and cool down
• Basic anatomy and physiology
• Safe sequencing and progression of dance sessions
• Injury prevention and management
• Ensuring a safe environment
• Nutrition and hydration.

The course is designed and delivered by Dance UK member Charlotte Tomlinson MSc who is co-author of Safe Dance Practice: An Applied Dance Science Perspective which is a key read for this qualification. Charlotte has been successfully delivering courses in Healthy Dance Practice for a number of years. She is a member of IADMS and has a Masters degree in Dance Science. She teaches dance in a variety of community settings as well as working with dance students in education. Charlotte has been invited by Safe in Dance International to be the first UK provider to join the SiDI 'Registered Provider List’ and has recently joined the team as a Quality Reviewer.

The team leading Safe in Dance International (SiDI) has a long history in assessment, quality assurance and healthy dance practice. Assessors will be IADMS members of high standing and professionals who have exceptional knowledge and experience of healthy dance practice. The management and assessment of the Certification will be undertaken by Safe in Dance International.

Course date Monday 15th February - Thursday 18th February 2016
Time: 9:30am-4:30pm
Location: Leicester College, Performing Arts Department, Abby Park Campus, Painter Street, Leicester, LE1 3WA.
Cost: £350 (includes mentor, course and assessment fees. This cost does not include accommodation)
