The Point The Point presents collaborative Dance Showcase, Wednesday 2nd December

Date Sat 28 November 2015

On Wednesday 2nd December Dance UK member The Point will present work from its six dance companies in this unique autumn sharing.

Work has been devised by the various group leaders who, together with their students, have created innovative, original and memorable dance pieces. The companies presenting in the sharing are Hampshire Youth Dance Company, Point Youth Dance Company (three groups aged 8-18), Retrospectif Dance Company and Next Step. Each group has been inspired by various themes which have led to exploratory and innovative works.

Hampshire Youth Dance Company is presenting a work in progress entitled Legacy. Led by Tory East, Legacy celebrates 20 years of HYDC in 2016 by exploring the past, present and future through innovative dance moves realized by young dancers.

The Point Youth Dance Company will present three separate sharing’s, led by different dance teachers. PYDC 8-11 years will showcase Journeys, led by The Point’s Dance Development Manager Vicki Hargreaves. Journeys is a quirky and fascinating performance which has been inspired by the young dancers everyday movement through life. Natalie Watson leads PYDC 12-15 years and Hayley Barker, Associate Artist at The Point, leads PYDC 15-18 years.

Agent for Dance Excellence KJ Mortimer leads The Point’s older adult company Retrospectif who will be sharing their development of Focus In, a work which has studied the way in which people pass energy from one another. This narrative has led to a work which displays focus, concentration and artistic verve.

Completing the lineup is Next Step, The Point’s dance company for people with learning disabilities, led by Rosa Kentwood and entitled What’ll I do now? The sharing will demonstrate the work of Next Step’s most recent project which is focused on exploring the emotion of being imprisoned. The group have taken inspiration from Christopher Bruces’s dance piece Swansong and have devised their own interpretation of life behind bars.

Tickets for the Dance Showcase are just £4 and the sharing will last for approximately 45 minutes. This is an exciting chance to get a behind-the-scenes look at the development stage of contemporary dance as well as to catch a glimpse of an array of unique performances.
